The Carolina Copy Cats
The Carolina Copy Cats June McDuffee Scholarship is named after our founder. We were founded in 2007 through June’s article in the Fort Mill Times. A non-profit organization devoted to providing entertainment primarily to senior citizens. We perform about 30 lip-synched shows annually featuring the vintage music that is most recognized by senior audiences.
The proceeds from these events allowed The Carolina Copy Cats to start a scholarship fund at Winthrop University in the amount of $1,500. Incoming York County or South Carolina freshmen pursuing a college degree preferably in Theatre or Dance may receive a scholarship. The number and amount to be determined by the head of the department as funds allow.
*NEW-From a May, 2023 performance at Winthrop, we are giving our scholarship fund $1500 along with Norm Fowler's generous donation of $3,000.
In addition to the Winthrop scholarships, The Carolina Copy Cats gives an annual one or more June McDuffee Scholarships to a Center Stage Dance Senior pursuing a college education. We were able to give two $1000 scholarships in 2019 & 2020. In 2021 & 2022 a $1000 scholarship was awarded each year. In 2023 we awarded one $1000 scholarship and two $500 scholarships. From our budget in 2023 we gave six graduates in 2024 $500 each.
The Copy Cat volunteers are at least 50 years of age. For more information about joining or contributing to the Carolina Copy Cats, contact Jo Remmey at joremmey@gmail.com.
